Cancellation Policy
Students please note that the Department pays for the above consultation services, which is especially hired in the interests of students. The Department hopes that students will make the most of the CAP and keep ahead of industry developments. It has come to the Department’s attention that some students registered for the events but did not turn up, some gave very short prior notice whilst some did not bother to do so at all.
In this regard, we have a Cancellation Policy for departmental career-related events. Please read the policy very carefully for your own benefit.
Please understand that our teachers and staff work very hard to liaise with different parties in order to organize experiential events for students. Although all of us are extremely busy for our teaching, research and administrative duties, we put a lot of time and resources to reach out and prepare the activities for the sake of students. If anyone might not be able to attend the event after registration, he/she should have informed the Department at the soonest, so that valuable resources would not be wasted.
Lastly, we hope you all understand that the purpose of the cancellation policy is NOT to penalize anyone, but to prevent resources being wasted and to allow us help those interested students who are eager and determined to succeed in their future careers.
Leave of Absence
Students who desire leave of absence on non-medical grounds should WRITE to the Dean of Science at the earliest opportunity, stating the reasons for which the leave of absence is sought. Supporting documents such as contracts should be enclosed in your letter, and submitted to the Faculty of Science office. Please refer to University General Regulations G8 for details.
This implies that those who will take full-time internships MUST apply for leave of absence and obtain approval from the Faculty BEFORE working full-time.
Students interested in part-time internships must ensure that the internship arrangement does not interfere with the regular study programme. The Department will not approve changes in course selection requirements to cater for time conflicts with part-time internship arrangements.
