Benefits to Students
There is no better training than obtaining solid hands-on experience in the real workplace. In conjunction with the Career Advising Programme, our Internship Programme serves precisely this purpose. As an intern, the student will gain insight into the challenging world and daily activities of an Actuary/Statistician/Data Scientist while strengthening his/her technical, analytical and communication skills.
Under the Internship Programme, BASc(AppliedAI) students, BSc(ActuarSc) students, students who declare Decision Analytics / Risk Management / Statistics as their First Major, and our postgraduate students are eligible to use the Department's Internship/Job Online-application System, where related internships and other job openings including graduate positions will be posted.
Our alumni may wish to know that normally they will still be eligible to use the System after graduation from our Department.

Leave of Absence
Students who desire leave of absence on non-medical grounds should WRITE to the Dean of Science at the earliest opportunity, stating the reasons for which the leave of absence is sought. Supporting documents such as contracts should be enclosed in your letter, and submitted to the Faculty of Science office. Please refer to University General Regulations G8 for details.
This implies that those who will take full-time internships MUST apply for leave of absence and obtain approval from the Faculty BEFORE working full-time.
Students interested in part-time internships must ensure that the internship arrangement does not interfere with the regular study programme. The Department will not approve changes in course selection requirements to cater for time conflicts with part-time internship arrangements.
