  1. What was your educational background?
  2. Heidi:
    I pursued a BSc in Risk Management at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) from September 2017 to June 2022. Throughout my studies, I focused on courses related to the statistics of investment risk, derivatives and risk management, and data visualization.

  3. Could you tell us about your work experience?
  4. Heidi:
    Certainly! After completing my studies, I joined a French investment bank as a Trainee in the Department of Risk. In this role, I assisted in enhancing the risk governance and processes to manage and control various risk types, including credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks. I also monitored changes in portfolio credit quality, established risk stress test frameworks, and oversaw permanent internal controls.

  5. Have you gained experience in other areas of risk management?
  6. Heidi:
    Yes, I have had the opportunity to gain valuable experience through internships in renowned organizations. As an Actuarial Intern at an European insurer in Hong Kong, I worked on financial reporting and gained exposure to different reporting standards and finance concepts. At another American reinsurance firm, I supported actuarial systems development activities and conducted scenario and sensitivity analysis. Additionally, as an Actuarial Intern at a Hong Kong based life insurance Company, I contributed to the implementation and validation of new modeling methodologies and IFRS19 assumption.

  7. How has the Risk Management major at HKU shaped your career.
  8. Heidi:
    The Risk Management major at HKU has been instrumental in my professional growth. It provided me with a solid foundation in risk management principles and equipped me with analytical skills and the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes. The interdisciplinary approach and practical focus of the program prepared me for the challenges of the industry and opened doors to exciting career opportunities.

  9. What are your current responsibilities in the Global Market department at a French investment bank?
  10. Heidi:
    In my recent transition to the Global Market department, I deliver cross-asset marketing material supporting APAC Global Markets sales activities, with a specific focus on listed structured product, covering Warrants, CBBCs, DLCs in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. This includes simulations, performance analysis, and compliance coordination.

  11. What advice would you give to students considering a major in Risk Management?
  12. Heidi:
    I highly recommend considering Risk Management as a major. It is a dynamic and evolving field that offers numerous opportunities across various industries. Whether your interests lie in finance, insurance, consulting, or risk analysis, a solid foundation in risk management will provide you with essential skills and knowledge to thrive. Embrace the practical learning experiences, engage with professors and classmates, and be open to continuous learning.

    The Risk Management major at HKU provides a comprehensive understanding of risk management principles, analytical skills, and the ability to assess and manage risks effectively.
