- How many rounds of registration are there in one academic year?
There are two rounds of registration, with the first round in the summer (i.e. July/August) and the second one in January, both preceding the course selection periods.
Students should submit their registration in the first round (July/August) even if they wish to take the course in the second semester, given that there are quotas in the courses.
For STAT4799 Statistics project, a year-long course, registration will only be available in the first round.
- If I have not yet met the course pre-requisites, can I still submit application for the project/directed studies/capstone experience courses when applications are called for the summer?
If students believe that they will fulfill the course pre-requisites after the first semester final exams in December, they can still submit early application in the summer for taking the (semester-long only) course in the second semester. Although enrolments will not be approved until the pre-requisites are met, early application will be given priority when it comes to the selection. Students should list the courses yet to be completed for fulfilling the pre-requisites under ‘Remarks for office’s attention’ in the online form.
- If I am already approved to take the statistics internship course (STAT4766), do I still need to submit application for project/directed studies/capstone experience courses?
If students are interested they can choose to submit application for project (STAT4799) or directed studies (STAT3799), but not for the capstone experience courses (STAT4710). The two courses STAT4710 and STAT4766 are mutually exclusive.
- What criteria is the selection based on?
For project/directed studies, the selection is mainly based on academic performance.
For capstone experience course, the selection is mainly based on the number of available seats for each semester. Meanwhile, grouping is done randomly.
- With mutual consent can I swap the group with someone in the capstone experience course?
No. Requests for changes (e.g. semester, choices of supervisors/groups, etc.) will NOT be entertained.
- Can I drop the course if I find myself not suitable for the course in the middle of the semester?
Students will NOT be allowed to drop the course after the add/drop periods (September/January) except for medical reasons. If students cannot complete the course requirement on time, a fail grade may be given.
In particular, students will NOT be allowed to drop STAT4799 after the add/drop period in September.
