Registration for CAP Induction and Talk about Quant Job Interview Skills and Market Update 2015


Message for Statistics / Risk Management / Decision Analytics (as first major), BSc (Actuarial Science), Master of Statistics and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science¡¦s RPG students

Dear Students,

Welcome back to HKU in the new semester!

As you may be aware of, our Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science (SAAS) has launched the Career Advising Programme (CAP) (refer to email message dated 19/8/2015) in order to assist our students in planning their career and provide support to their preparation.

The first event of the CAP function would be:

  • The Intensive Talk will be conducted by Mr. Herman Chan, ex-Director of Careers and Placements, HKU CEDARS (2005-2013).

    Herman is a graduate from HKU with BSocSc in 1976. He joined the commercial world in the field of human resources. He worked in major corporations including the Peninsula Hotel Group, Sime Darby Group in his early career covering major HR functions such as recruitment, compensation, labour relation and training. He was sent by a textile group to Ontario, Canada to take over and managed a textile company as GM from 1985 to 1990. He later returned to HK and engaged in HR, administration, new projects, and supply chain in Johnson & Johnson as GM for these functions. He completed EMBA with CUHK in 1995. He later worked with CITIC Pacific as GM in HR and Admin with major responsibility in China project teams setup, operation and HR control. Before he retired in 2005 he worked with the K Wah (property, hotel, quarry building material) group as Group HR and Admin Director responsible for new projects feasibility and set up, senior level HR function. His last project was the Galaxy Casino early stage set up.
    Upon retirement in 2005, he worked as volunteer for HKU career service for 9 months and later as a full time Director of Career Service until 2013 when he retired the second time.

    Herman is very experienced in providing professional advice to students seeking jobs in the business industry.
    He gave a similar talk last year and received exceptionally positive response from the participant.
