To: BSc(ActuarSc) Students (2021-22)
Students are invited to submit applications HERE for the following capstone courses for 2021-22: (Note: The earliest that a student can take the following capstone courses is their year 3 study.)
1. STAT4798 Statistics and actuarial science project (6 credits) (This course is mutually exclusive with STAT4711.)
- Format: Individual project
- In the registration form, students can submit up to 10 choices of project titles (see attached) in descending preference. As all applications will undergo selection by supervisors, please do not assume that you will be automatically assigned a place if you submit only 1 choice.

2. STAT4711 Capstone experience for actuarial science undergraduates (6 credits) (This course is mutually exclusive with STAT4767 and STAT4798.)
- Format: Group project
- Students do not need to indicate preference for topics/supervisors, as grouping will be done randomly. The project title/topic will be discussed and fixed during the first meeting with supervisors.

- In particular, students are strongly advised to consult the corresponding project supervisor(s) before submitting choices of project titles in the registration form. If a supervisor agrees to take you as project student, please remember to include such information under the box “Remarks for office’s attention” in the registration form.
When applying for the course:
- Students can apply for more than one course. The Department will make the selection for each course in the above order. If a student applies for more than one course, the Department will consider if the student is of enough academic merit for course #1 first, if not, then course #2, and so on.
- The courses are offered in both 1st and 2nd semesters. Students should indicate which semester they prefer to take the course despite no guarantee.
- The deadline for application is 12:00 noon on Thursday, 20 January 2022. Late applications will not be accepted.
After applying for the course:
- Announcement of the application results will be made via HKU email on Thursday, 27 January 2022. Please check your HKU email regularly.
Upon successful application for the course:
- No changes (e.g. semester, choices of supervisors/groups, etc.) will be entertained.
- Please enroll yourself in the corresponding course for the right semester on SIS during the course selection period (in August). If you do not enroll by the course selection period, it is assumed that you withdraw your application, and the place may go to other students on the wait-list during the add/drop period (in September).
- Students will not be allowed to drop the course after the corresponding add/drop period.
