The world is now undergoing a rapid revolution in technology with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), a notion attributed to machines that exhibit intelligence and emulate cognitive functions usually associated with humans. With the advent of machine learning and predictive analytics, the traditional system is being replaced by self-adaptive automation in many, if not all, industries. Through better deployment of technological solutions with the help of AI tools such as automated systems and smart machines, optimal decisions and strategies can be formulated with greater clarity, accuracy and confidence, leading to greater operational efficiency as well as effectiveness.
As an international university HKU should equip her best students with the right training to find innovative solutions to real-life problems and exert beneficial impacts on the society with their knowledge in artificial intelligence and data science. It is believed that artificial intelligence as an educational endeavour will benefit many areas central to our everyday life and motivate interdisciplinary research in science and technology, environmental protection, medical informatics, health care, business, banking, finance, urban development, neurocognitive science, just to name a few. At the same time we seek to endow future leaders with innovative ideas and a scientific mindset, as well as a deep sense of social and ethical awareness.
