Competition Theme –

2025: The topic of the Competition is “Insurance Innovation.” Student participants will submit a proposal related to innovations in the insurance business (e.g., new products, AI use, distribution channels, and so on).

Registration rules

Rule 1Each team can either have 3 or 4 members; all members must be enrolled as undergraduate students in a university in Hong Kong as of May 2025 in a full-time program.
Rule 2Each member can only belong to one team.
Rule 3The team leader is responsible for being the contact point between the competition host and the team members.
Rule 4Each team should submit ONE registration form by 23:59 HKT on June 6, 2025 (Friday).
Rule 5After registration, the team composition should not be changed, unless approved by the competition host.

Preliminary Round Submission Requirement

Deadline:June 20, 2025 (Friday) 23:59 HKT
Page Limit:Maximum 2 pages of PowerPoint slides, summarising the analysis, strategy, and recommendations. An optional appendix not longer than 5 pages of PowerPoint slides is allowed.
Clarity:The slide deck should present the main ideas of the proposal clearly.
Original Work:The content must be the original work of the team members. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may be used but they must be employed in an ethical and responsible manner. Misrepresenting AI-generated work as original is prohibited. Teams must clearly disclose any use of AI in their reports or research.
Source Citations:Sources should be properly cited sources using a generally accepted citation system.

Evaluation criteria (60 points max)

Analysis (20 points):Setting up a problem statement, analysing the issue, and understanding the depth of the proposal, including the identification of key issues, opportunities, and challenges within the insurance industry.
Creativity and Innovation (20 points):The originality and creativity of the proposed solutions.
Feasibility and Implementation (10 points):The practicality and potential impact of the solutions, including considerations of how they could be implemented in a real-world context.
Presentation and Communication (10 points):The clarity, structure, and effectiveness of the slide deck and appendix.

Local Final Round

Shortlisted teams from the preliminary round (local finalists) will proceed to the local final round, to be held on July 17, 2025 (Thursday). The local final round involves face-to-face presentations to industry judges. Details regarding the local final round will be posted at a later stage.

Local finalists can choose to work with an industry advisor to further develop their proposals.

Working with an advisor is not compulsory, but if any team is interested in seeking a professional team advisor, the ASHK can help assign an actuary or a practitioner in the insurance industry to be advisor, subject to availability.


Global Final Round

The winner of the local final round will advance to the global final round, which takes place at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore on August 15, 2025 (Friday). Flight and accommodation for the local winning team will be provided.
