STAT2318 Directed Studies in Statistics (6 credits) (2012-2013)

To    : 2nd or 3rd year Majoring in Risk Management or Statistics Students (2012-2013)
From: Prof. W.K. Li, Head, Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science
Date: 13 July 2012

All 2nd or 3rd year Majoring in Risk Management or Statistics students, who have taken at least 18 credits of introductory level courses in Statistics or Risk Management, are eligible to take STAT2318 Directed Studies in Statistics (6 credits), but approval is subject to past academic performance. Please visit the link here for the list of project titles and supervisors. You are welcome to consult with staff members on their projects (though some of them will be away from Hong Kong and hence are unavailable). We will allocate the projects to students, conforming as best we can to their preferences. If there is more than one student selecting a given project, priority will be given to the student with the highest average mark on the 1st-year or 2nd-year statistics and actuarial science papers. Some consideration will also be given to other courses the student has selected.

The project commences on September 17, 2012 and ends on mid-February 2013. You are required to give an oral presentation and submit a complete report by the end of February 2013.

If you wish to apply for STAT2318, please fill in the Application form here by August 1, 2012. The result will be announced by email on or before August 6, 2012. Please check the result BEFORE selecting online for this course.

Please note that STAT2318 Directed Studies in Statistics (6 credits) and STAT3319 Statistics Project (12 credits) CANNOT be taken in the same study year.

Please send ONE application form for EITHER STAT2318 OR STAT3319 to the department only.
